Since 2013, the NGDO Solidariedade Internacional de Galicia (SIG) and the research group
ECIGAL at the University of A Coruña,
Faculty of Education, have been collaborating on projects funded by various
public and private institutions.
Over the years we have been increasingly convinced of the need to overcome approaches that reduce GCE
in the education system to one-off and isolated experiences. At the same time, we have also identified
a significant number of practicing professionals who are carrying out very interesting initiatives,
either individually or in collaboration with social entities. Given this reality, we consider it essential
to become familiar with the state of the art, as a starting point for both weaving a network of centers
and entities that are addressing GCE and for establishing lines of collaboration and shared learning.
The map we present here responds to this dual purpose.
We decided to use social mapping as a research and action methodology to map experiences in a collaborative
and participative way. The instrument designed for this procedure was a cartographic room, developed in
person with teachers and entities that helped in its construction and validation (vídeo explicativo). The
virtual map is the result of transferring this tool to an online format, which aims to encourage the collection
of new experiences and support the visibility and dissemination for those already mapped.
Although we have this tool, we don’t want to miss out on the advantages offered by the face-to-face cartographic
rooms, with respect to the promotion of dialogic processes of reflection and joint analysis. We intend to
continue organizing these meetings, as they permit a collective exercise of knowledge, representation and
problematization of reality, based on participation and commitment. We understand that this is the only way to
initiate processes of social transformation that can promote global citizenship work.
This is the impact we hope to achieve, offering a global overview of the actions that are being carried out
in educational institutions, to begin creating support and collaboration networks that inspire and support common projects.
